SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Tamás Jovanovics was born in Budapest/Hungary in 1974. He graduated in 1997 and obtained his PhD in Painting in 2004 at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and also obtained a MA degree in 1999 and a PhD in Fine Arts in 2004 at the Université de Provence Aix-Marseille in Aix-en-Provence / France. Since 1999 he has held exhibitions in numerous galleries and museums, both public and private in Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, London, Milan, Moscow and New York. In 2007 he won a public art competition that he completed in 2008. The permanent and monumental installation is located on three facades of a University campus in Nyíregyháza/ Hungary. The three-dimensional structures - made of steel and aluminum and weighing approximately 14 tons - are applied onto the facades and the roofs of the three 23 m high buildings. The site ultimately won the FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Award in 2009, as the best public sector development of the year. In 2009 he was selected for an Artist in Residence for three months in New York (USA) at the Harlem Studio Fellowship by MontrasioArte. In the same year he received a special mention by the curators of the Milan based Premio Artivisive San Fedele. In 2014 he had the honor to have one of the last solo shows in the legendary, monumental Templespace of the Kiscell Museum in Budapest. In 2016 he presented a solo show in Hungary´s most historical private gallery, the Várfok Gallery, showing works both in the main gallery space and the Várfok Project Room. In 2017 he became member of the Open Structure Art Society, an artist association led by Dóra Maurer. Currently represented by Galerie Leonhard (Graz, AT) and Einspach Fine Art & Photography (Budapest, HU).
